Nightguards
Many people suffer from bruxism (teeth clenching or grinding) while they sleep. Some people experience it during the day as well, without even being aware that they are doing it. This can cause a number of problems, including sore jaw and headaches, tooth pain and sensitivity, and chipped or worn down teeth. When left untreated, bruxism can lead to more serious problems, including cracks in teeth, jaw problems, and even permanent damage that can be costly to fix.
To help treat this, a custom fitted, clear appliance can be made for patients to wear at night, or during the day if needed, to protect the teeth from and ease the symptoms of teeth grinding. An impression of your teeth is taken, and a Nightguard is made to specifically fit your teeth. Sometimes TMJ therapy may be prescribed as well.
Athletic Guards for sports are made in a way similar way to Nightguards, but they are thicker, and can be requested in colors to match your team or uniform! These are typically requested by patients or parents of children who participate in sports that require protection from concussions and possible impacts to mouth and head.
