Sedation

Many patients may benefit from the use of dental sedation. Reasons for patients to utilize it include alleviating extreme dental anxiety, physical conditions that make dental procedures uncomfortable such as TMJ or back issues and severe gag reflex, and the desire to complete very long appointments completing all treatment needed at once or complex procedures that patients just do not want to be completely awake for.

We offer 2 sedation options.

Nitrous oxide

For most patients (children and adults) who may experience anxiety during their dental treatments, or struggle to remain still and calm during their appointment, our team may recommend the use of Nitrous Oxide.

Commonly referred to as “laughing gas,” this easily administered analgesic can be included in almost any dental visit at our office. Advantages of Nitrous Oxide include: relaxation for patients before anesthetic is administered, it’s effects work immediately when used, dosage and effects of the gas can be strengthened or lessened moment by moment and wear off instantly after the procedure, and you do not need a driver after your appointment. This option is ideal for patients who wish to return to daily activities.

Oral conscious sedation

Oral conscious sedation is the use of prescription sedatives taken prior to and during treatment. Patients are very closely monitored during their appointment, and should rely on the help of trusted friend or family member to drive them to and from their appointment and monitor them following treatment.
